I really appreciate #Julies Jones Will not be executed.@GovStitt It was indeed ordered that he was not eligible to apply for commutation, pardon, or parole for the rest of his life. Therefore, the work of justice continues.

“@GovStitt dragged the process to the last moment, causing unnecessary sadness and trauma to Jones and Howell’s family. Then his decision was only half right. Although I am grateful that Julius Jones’ life was spared, But a person who may be innocent is still sitting in jail. The governor should fully follow the recommendations of the Pardon and Parole Committee.”

“Given the overwhelming evidence of Julius’ innocence, we had hoped that the governor would fully adopt the board’s recommendations through the possibility of Julius’s life sentence and parole in the community. We are grateful that the governor avoided irreparable mistakes,” Jones’ lawyer Amanda Bath Said In a statement.
Paul Howell’s family issued a statement about Stitt’s decision.
“We know that Governor Stitt made a difficult decision. We are relieved that his decision confirmed the crimes of Julius Jones and that he will not be eligible to apply for or consider commutation, pardon, or pardon for the rest of his life. Parole… Julius Jones changed our lives and the lives of his family and friends forever,” the press release reads.
Oklahoma Attorney General John O’Connor disagrees with Stitt’s decision statement.
“[We] I am very disappointed that 22 years later, 4 people appeared, including 13 appellate judges, and the work of investigators, prosecutors, jurors and trial judges was put on hold. A thorough review of the evidence confirmed the crime of Julius Jones in this case and the death penalty is necessary,” the statement read.
The possibility that Jones may be sentenced to death has received high attention.A group of people gathered outside the Oklahoma State Prison on Thursday Sing “amazing Grace.”
