K Health Partners with Mayo Clinic to Develop Algorithms for Personalized Hypertension Treatment

High blood pressure is one of them most common According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, chronic diseases in the United States affect nearly half of all adults in the country. Unfortunately, standard high blood pressure treatment usually involves testing several different medications and making lifestyle adjustments until a patient’s blood pressure improves.

Digital Primary Care Company healthy join forces Mayo Clinic to solve this problem. On Thursday, the New York-based startup Announce It builds an algorithm that can help doctors deliver personalized hypertension treatment using medical data and real-time insights Mayo Clinic Platform_Discovery, a collection of de-identification datasets from 10 million patients. These datasets include nearly 1.2 billion laboratory test results, 3 million echocardiograms, and more than 640 million clinical records.

Founded in 2016, K Health is a digital platform that uses AI to help people understand how to diagnose and treat people with similar symptoms and conditions. The company is also seeking to increase Americans’ access to primary care by offering telehealth appointments for urgent and chronic care conditions, as well as giving uninsured patients the option to chat with a clinician for less than a copay.

Ran Shaul, the company’s co-founder and chief product officer, said its name comes from the silent letter in “knowledge” because K Health seeks to “bring health knowledge to everyone, everywhere.”

When K Health builds its hypertension treatment tool, it uses data points such as demographics, medical history, lab results, prescriptions and outcomes An algorithm to train and improve it. The tool is designed to provide clinicians with a more targeted, personalized approach to treating high blood pressure.

The algorithm is designed to treat patients newly diagnosed with high blood pressure, as well as those for whom it is difficult to find effective treatments for high blood pressure. The tool can predict the medications and lifestyle changes that are best for each specific patient.

Our model learns from a very diverse population,” Shaul said. “During the training process, it is designed to optimize the individual’s treatment. For us, equality is not “everyone gets the same treatment” but “everyone gets the treatment that suits them best”.

Shaul argues that biases that distort population distribution in terms of gender and race do not affect the algorithm as it determines treatment recommendations for the following populations patients at this level of individualization.

The algorithm will be available to K Health’s network of more than 300 clinicians, who will use it to treat patients seeking care through the platform. The company currently has over 6 million users and its platform is also available to millions of members through Anthem. K Health also has an enterprise solution called Hydrogen Healthwhich makes the platform available to employers and insurance companies.

The goal of K Health’s partnership with Mayo Clinic Platform_Discover is to improve outcomes for people with high blood pressure, Shaul said. K Health plans to measure this by comparing results achieved by clinicians using the algorithm with a control group of clinicians not using the model.

The company will examine metrics such as patients’ blood pressure over time, their satisfaction levels, adoption levels of clinicians practicing on the K Health platform, and the frequency and length of visits.
