Ingredients and Substitutes

  • Beef Chuck Stew – If you can’t find cut beef stew, you can use roast beef cuts, then cut into 1-inch cubes.
  • olive oil – Other heat resistant oils like avocado oil will also work.
  • onion – Use white or yellow onions. Sweet onions work too, but are higher in carbs.
  • radish – Peel the carrots and cut them into thick circles. Carrots Are Not Keto Friendly By themselves, but a small amount in this recipe works for me. If you don’t want to use them, use bell peppers instead.
  • garlic – I used fresh garlic but you can use 2 tsp canned minced garlic For your convenience, if you prefer.
  • celery root – What’s the secret ingredient in this keto beef stew recipe? Celery root! Low in carbs, this root vegetable has the texture of a potato once soft and tender. (You can also make Celery Root Soup Along with it, it’s a con loaded potato soup). For the stew, you’ll get about 1 pound of peeled and diced celery root from 1.5 pounds of celery root with the stem and peel—just the right amount for this dish. If you can’t find celery root, rutabagas would make a suitable replacement.
  • beef bone soup – You can use the shop to buy or Homemade Bones In this healthy beef stew recipe. It adds rich flavor and can help you too Avoid the Keto Flu! But regular beef broth will work just as well if desired.
  • diced tomatoes -I use a can of diced tomatoes instead of high sugar ketchup. It also helps balance out the stronger flavor of bone broth.
  • bay leaf – For seasoning. Just be sure to remove the bay leaves from the stew before serving.
  • condiment – sea salt, black pepper and my homemade italian seasoning Simply season this delicious tomato stew.

Tips for the Best Keto Beef Stew

Tips for the Best Keto Beef Stew

It’s the perfect comfort food, and there are so many ways to customize it to your taste preferences. Here are some tips for making the best keto beef stew ever!

  • Brown each piece of meat. It is important to brown the beef in a single layer on high heat without over-moving. This ensures a nice sear. Do it in batches, if necessary, so that each piece touches the pan.
  • Add red wine. If you like, you can add 1/2 cup of red wine along with the broth – some people think red wine (or red wine vinegar) is a must for goulash. While this will increase the carb count, it’s not strictly necessary. I skip it in the stew to make it more kid-friendly, too.
  • let the beef stew。 Don’t worry – you don’t have to be standing by the stove, so this is a great time for meal prepping other dishes or doing other things around the house.
  • Do not add celery root too early. We add celery root in a later step so it doesn’t get too mushy. It takes about 15-20 minutes to soften, similar to boiling a potato.

Variation: make it thicker

This keto beef stew recipe doesn’t need any thickeners! It thickens on its own. However, if you want more of a gravy consistency, you can add some gelatin, similar to thickening Keto Gravy. (If you need an alternative thickener to traditional thickeners like cornstarch, check out this list cornstarch substitute.)

Here’s how to thicken tomato sauce with gelatin after cooking:

  1. In a medium bowl, sprinkle 1 tablespoon gelatin over 1/3 cup water and let stand for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Scoop 1 cup of hot liquid from soup and stir into gelatin mixture until dissolved.
  3. Stir gelatin mixture back into stock pot.
