Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, warned South Korea on Sunday that if a joint military plan with the United States is passed, it will exacerbate tensions on the Korean peninsula.
North Korea and South Korea have been discussing holding summits to rebuild relations. Since the ceasefire in 1953, wars between these countries have continued.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s press secretary Park Soo-hyun said last Tuesday: “The leaders of the two countries have repeatedly trusted each other, explored ways to restore relations, and agreed to restore the severed hotline as the first step in this process.” Korea Central Agency, North Korean National News Agency.
But according to a Reuters report, on Sunday, Kim Yo-jung said that the relationship between North Korea and South Korea should only be regarded as a “physical connection.”
Washington and Seoul plan to hold military exercises later in August. Kim Yoo Jong called South Korea’s action “an aggressive war exercise.”
“Our government and military will pay close attention to whether the Koreans continue to conduct radical war exercises or make major decisions. Hope or despair? It does not depend on us,” Kim Yo-jung told KCNA.

President Joe Biden stated that he would not emulate the attitude of former President Donald Trump toward North Korea and is seeking to “completely denuclearize” the country. Trump’s national security adviser, John Bolton, once stated that North Korea will never voluntarily give up nuclear weapons, and Trump is not serious about preventing the country from building nuclear weapons.
