After a high school chemistry teacher urged her students to get vaccinated in a video recorded in the classroom, they have been on administrative leave.
A four-minute video taken by a student in the class showed the woman talking about a range of political topics, including the COVID-19 vaccine, climate change, and the former president Donald Trump.
“If you choose to be vaccinated, I will be very proud of you,” said the teacher identified as Leah Kinyon by FOX 13 somewhere in the video. “We will get variants over and over again until people get vaccinated. It will never end. If people get vaccinated, it may end in five seconds.”
The discussion was recorded by a student at Lehi High School in Utah, and later shared with the media by his mother Judy Storms.
“This is my classroom, if you are to put me in danger, you will hear it,” Kinyon added in the recording. “Because I have to be here. I don’t have to be happy about the fact that having children here with their variants might make me or my family sick. It’s rude and I won’t pretend to like it or not.”
Kinyon continued to deal with more controversial topics, and she said that after acknowledging that the student started the conversation in the first place, she would “speak up straight”.
“If you ask me a reasonable question, I won’t lie. I won’t whitewash it,” she said, adding that politics is a “topic you might want to avoid in this class.”
The chemistry teacher continued to express her views on Donald Trump, calling the former president a “sexual predator” and “idiot.”
“I hate Donald Trump. I want to say it. I don’t care what you think-Trump sucks,” Kim Yong said. He is a sexual predator. He is a literal idiot. Don’t complain about me to the damn administrator; they don’t talk nonsense. “
Class lectures seemed to have received mixed reviews. One student heard the protest “This is a chemistry class”, while another student joked, “I think I love you more now.”
Other topics to be discussed include climate change and homophobia.
“If you don’t believe in climate change, get out,” Kinyon said. A student retorted, “I will die.” The response prompted the teacher to answer: “Do you think…you are the world’s problem,” This is so sad.”
As the school’s heterosexual alliance consultant, Kinyon added that she will not tolerate homophobia. “If I hear you say a damn thing to any of them [members of the LGBTQIA+ community], I will open a can and I will make your life a hell,” she added.
Leah Kim Young is Listed According to the school catalog, as a teacher in the Gaoshan School District.
“We realized later this afternoon that an incident occurred in one of our high school classrooms today. An investigation was conducted immediately,” a spokesperson for the Alpine School District told FOX13. “The employee has been on administrative leave and is awaiting a thorough investigation. This behavior is inappropriate, does not reflect our expectations of teachers’ professional behavior and etiquette, and will not be tolerated.”
A similar example occurred in high school in 2016, when a science teacher was banned from using two words. Some students and their parents found these words offensive.
Allegedly, RevaBeth Russell used the words “condom” and “bobu” in the mathematics class.
At that time, Kinyon established a Change.org The petition “let RevaBeth Russell teach at Lehigh High School!” Reinstate this veteran with 32 years of teaching experience.
“Recently, Mrs. Reva Beth Russell was banned from serving as a substitute teacher at Lehi High School. She is a veteran of Lehi High School for more than 30 years. As a teacher of biology, AP biology, environmental science, etc., she was and is still Li Hai is the best Okay,” Jin Yong wrote. “In Lehi High School substitute, Mrs. Russell used two words in math class to prompt her to be disciplined. It is not clear whether Kinyon will return to the school to teach.
