Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (Larry Hogan) on Monday called for expedited approval of the COVID-19 vaccine for children under 12 years of age.

This is something we have been pushing for the past few weeks. This is a guarantee for those who are still hesitant to vaccinate. It meets the strictest safety and effectiveness standards.”
The statement continued: “We also continue to call on the federal government to expedite the approval so that our children between the ages of 5 and 11 can start being vaccinated against COVID-19.” “Getting our children vaccinated is essential to give parents more peace of mind, but we are Informed that it will take several months to get approval.”
Hogan’s statement was issued shortly after Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine was fully approved by the FDA. The US Food and Drug Administration previously issued an emergency use authorization for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.
After receiving full approval, Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock said in a statement: “As we continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, FDA approval of this vaccine is a milestone.”
“The public can be very confident that this vaccine meets the FDA’s high standards for the safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality of approved products,” Woodcock added.
Although the COVID-19 vaccine has not yet been approved for use in children under 12 years of age, in a recent interview with NPR, Dr. Phil Dormitzer, Chief Scientific Officer of Pfizer Virus Vaccine, stated that the vaccine manufacturer hopes to obtain trial data for children under 12 years of age. By the end of September, the company will vaccinate children between 5 and 11 years of age.
“We hope to be authorized shortly after the start of the school year-it depends on two outcomes, and of course there are some decisions,” Dormitzer told NPR.
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, although Hogan called for accelerated approval of the COVID-19 vaccine for children under 12 years of age, Maryland has been able to fully vaccinate at least 60% of its population.CDC).
Hogan also recently stated in a statement that by Labor Day, 80% of adults in Maryland will receive at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
