Matt Damon recalled his experience working with Ben Affleck as a writer before the upcoming movie “The Last Duel” was released.
The duo co-wrote a film for the first time after winning the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for “Goodwill Hunting” released in 1997. Damon, 50, talked about the writing process of the film.
“I think the writing process of Good Will Hunting is very inefficient,” Damon said Entertainment tonight“You know, because we don’t really understand the structure, we wrote thousands of pages. We think,’Well, what if this happens?’ Then we write different scenarios.”
“So, we have all these different scenes, and then we try to cram them together into something that looks like a movie,” the “Ford v Ferrari” star explain To the exit.
However, the actor pointed out that the upcoming movie “The Last Duel” is different from “This is a story about perspective.” Damon pointed out that there are “two knights and then Mrs. Margaret” in the movie, and their views are written by different talents.
The actor also told ET that the male perspective of the two knights was created by him and the 48-year-old Affleck, and the director Nicole Holofcener wrote a female perspective for Mrs. Margaret.
“This is the structure of that movie,” he pointed out in a speech to the publication. “And I think we just discovered that in making…it’s like making a movie for 30 years, we actually learned something about structure in the process, and the process progressed faster.”
He further stated that Affleck will write more in the future, because the most recent movie is “not as time-consuming as they thought.” In addition, the actor added “It’s actually very interesting.”
The historical drama “The Last Duel” will be released on October 15 this year.
Damon will also star in the highly anticipated film Thor: Love and Thunder, which is currently in post-production and is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2022. On the other hand, Affleck is currently filming “The Flash” with Andrés Muschietti at the helm,” scheduled to be released on November 4, 2022.
Affleck will also star in films such as “Hypnosis”, “Ghost Army” and “Prosecution Witness”.
