MG House: A glimpse of Ahmedabad’s rich heritage

During my recent trip to Ahmedabad (in cooperation with the Gujarat Tourism Authority), I was very happy to enjoy a suite stay at the House of MG, a traditional hotel that provides a meticulous glimpse of the city’s rich culture Well-known. If Ahmedabad (India’s first UNESCO World Heritage city) is synonymous with cultural richness, then this 200-year-old building is “undoubtedly” for anyone who wants to learn about its art and history. Ideal base. But what makes this 20th-century boutique heritage hotel exciting beyond art? There are too many things, really!

MG House

Most importantly, the House of MG (Mangaldas) greeted Mahatma Gandhi when he first returned to India from South Africa. This implies that he was walking around in this stately mansion that was once the home of Ahmedabad’s main benefactor and businessman Sheth Mangaldas Girdhardas (Sheth Mangaldas Girdhardas). Staying here, for me, means walking on the same floor as the father of my country. I spent the whole night sitting on the fancy swing on the front porch, thinking about the way and content of Mahatma Gandhi’s thinking during this period.

The philosophical imagination itself will make you get goose bumps; this is the influence of Mahatma Gandhi’s memory, who led India to independence with pure determination and simplicity. I believe that the MG House is a copy of all simple, firm and complex ideologies. Its location in the city center also played to its advantages. More importantly, in the late 1990s, the House of MG was renovated into a boutique hotel and opened to tourists, who now have the opportunity to appreciate it like Mahatma Gandhi once did.

MG House Floor Map

At first glance, the labyrinth of passages and stairs “actually” are 25,000 square feet of aesthetic treasures scattered across three floors. The first floor leads to a reception area with gorgeous tiled floors, and finally to a waiting area with antique wooden furniture and old photos, a gallery, an open courtyard with traditional seating, and several guest rooms and suites on either side.

Stroll through galleries and tribal heirloom boutiques to learn about the traditional Indian textiles collected by the Mangaldas family. The Heritage Bookstore is the latest addition to ensure that the sense of history is swaying in the air. The other two floors have tastefully decorated rooms and suites.

The rooms and suites of MG House

During my visit to Ahmedabad, I stayed in the CG-128 suite, which is a new member of the property, but if you plan to stay in a suite, I suggest you choose the Mangaldas suite (prices between 10,200 rupees and 14,300 rupees) ) That was once the bedroom of Sheth Mangaldas. Or, you can choose to stay in the atmospheric Kanchangauri Suite, which is equipped with a kitchenette and dining table.

Each luxurious suite is equipped with a swing, work table, dressing area and spacious bathroom. Although the decor is full of traditional wooden furniture and stained glass doors and windows, it also includes modern facilities such as a flat-screen TV with DVD player, fast Wi-Fi connection and a work desk with an iPod docking station.

The House of MG Restaurant

The restaurant of House of MG is also reveling in the charm of the old world. At Pol Kholi (Pol means narrow street, Kholi means open) restaurant, you can sip freshly brewed juice, taste traditional/western dishes or enjoy various ice creams. In the Green House Restaurant, under the awning of ancient trees, taste authentic Gujarati dishes, which will make your taste buds yearn for more. Breakfast is served in the courtyard cafe, and you can sip tea/coffee or other beverages on the sweet little balcony paved with red stone tiles throughout the day.

During most of my stay, I lay lazily on the swing in my suite or read from the library in the suite. On the third floor, the rooftop restaurant Agashiye Lounge and Garden overlooks the Sidi Saiyyed Mosque and the city landscape, serving the finest Gujarati cuisine in a traditional high-end restaurant environment. Here, you can choose to dine indoors or outdoors, no matter where you choose to dine, the attentive staff will provide you with the best service.

House of MG Courtyard Cafe

A few years ago, one of the reasons Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to dine here. In Agashiye: Choose from silver thali or Kansa thali, each of which presents a splendid smorgasbord of Gujarati (vegetarian) cuisine. The meal is traditionally served on a silver plate and includes sweet and savoury welcome drinks, appetizers, main dishes, lentils, yogurt gravy, and finally a selection of rice dishes. After tasting the thali, all you have to do is sleep. However, this service may take a while, as each restaurant serves fresh, slow-cooked food made from seasonal ingredients.

Courtyard of MG House

In addition to being one of the oldest buildings in Ahmedabad, MG House admirably outlines the colonial architecture of the early 20th century through its 38 elegantly furnished rooms and suites. Each room and suite is gorgeous It offers modern facilities in a simple atmosphere. They also have a serviced apartment, but none of the rooms or suites are equipped with a bathtub. Every piece of textiles and furniture you encounter in this luxury hotel is handmade from recycled materials.

MG Lotus Pond House

The indoor-themed lotus swimming pool is a good place to relax. The digitally designed lotus mural covers the entire ceiling and 55-foot swimming pool, with a 300 kg lotus inspired by Calder hanging in the center. Attached is the health club for fitness enthusiasts and the Chakra spa for leisure seekers.
