Shameless lawyer Michael Avenati On Thursday, he was sentenced to 30 months in prison for attempting to blackmail Nike for more than $20 million.

Avenatti first became famous after representing an adult movie star Stormy Daniels In the lawsuit against the former president Donald Trump 2018. He was convicted in February of trying to blackmail millions of dollars from major sports brands.

The judge said Avenatti was “drunk by the power of his platform” and “betrayed” his client.

“Mr. Avenatti has been fascinated by the power of his platform or what he thinks is the power of his platform,” Judge Paul Gardev said in the judgment of the U.S. District Court in Manhattan. “He has become a person as if the laws and rules that apply to other people do not apply to him.”

In addition to the two and a half years in prison, Avenatti also faces two other federal criminal trials in California and Manhattan.
