A quick and easy guide to migrating your audience from Mailchimp to Campaign Monitor.

Steps to migrate Mailchimp audiences to Campaign Monitor
Step 1: Log in to Mailchimp and export your audience
Select the audiences you want to migrate to Campaign Monitor. Then, select “Export Audience” to collect your users quickly and easily.
Step 2: Download the CSV file
Now that Mailchimp has generated a file that you can export, select the “Export to CSV” button to download your list. Note: If the list is large, it may take some time to generate the CSV.
After the file is generated, you will have a CSV file that looks like this when opened:
Step 3: Log in to Campaign Monitor and create your list
Once you have the CSV file, you can go to Campaign Monitor.Log in to your Activity Monitor account here.
If you don’t have an account, you can Register one here. Account creation is free, so you can test the platform yourself before making a payment.
After logging in, click on the “Lists and Subscribers” tab in the top menu. You will see an option to create a new list. Select “Create List” to start.
Then, name your list and click “Continue Import”.
Step 4: Import your list
Find the CSV file you exported from Mailchimp and drag the file into the box shown in the screenshot below. Dragging the file in will automatically start the file upload.
Step 5: Match customer data
Map the fields in the Mailchimp CSV file to the custom fields in Campaign Monitor. If you already have fields in your list that match the fields in the CSV file, Campaign Monitor will automatically match them for you.

audience
Mailchimp has recently transformed from a dedicated email platform to a multi-channel marketing center. With this change, Mailchimp renamed “List” to “Audience”. The key thing to know is that the audience is basically just a list of stored data.

Subscribed contacts
Choose who to receive your email marketing campaigns.

Unsubscribed contact
People who opted to receive your email marketing campaign but have unsubscribed since then.

People who interact with your online store but have not yet opted in to receive your email marketing campaigns.
Label
Labels are labels you create to help organize your contacts. Tagging allows you to bring your own contact structure into Mailchimp, allowing you to tag contacts based on data you know.
notes: Tags can be uploaded as custom fields in Activity Monitor.
group
Groups are the separation of your list based on subscriber interests and preferences.
notes: The group is identified as a subdivision in Campaign Monitor.
