Narasimhan becomes Starbucks’ new CEO

Laxman Narasimhan

Laxman Narasimhan will become Starbucks’ new CEO on October 1. He will officially take office in April and will also join the company’s board of directors.

Howard Schultz will remain interim CEO throughout the transition period. He will remain on the Starbucks board.

In the six months before Narasimhan officially takes office, he will spend time with Schultz, other company leaders, employees and customers, and familiarize himself with Schultz’s recent remodeling plan, which Schultz has said the company needs an overhaul.

In a statement, Narasimhan said he was “humbly” joining Starbucks.

“He is a strategy and transformation leader with extensive experience building strong consumer brands,” Schultz said. “He’s the leader we’re looking for.”

Narasimhan previously worked at Reckitt Benckiser and held various positions at PepsiCo.
