Right now it's very simple (and basically) because I want to release the simplest version to see if people use it and like it. At the top of the scan filter, you'll see two fields: “Search term” and “Earliest publication date.”
The scan will look for Exactly matches your search terms in the news Headlines (SwingTradeBot does not have the content of a news article, only the title). The search will start looking at titles published on the date you selected in the “Earliest Published Date” field and will find the current date.
You will see the generated title at the bottom of the page. Here are some results from a search for “FDA”:

reason I resisted creating this scan for a long time because it had so many warnings (Which I listed it on the forum a few weeks ago). Some of them are:
- All SwingTradeBot gets is the headlines, and even then, It's (mostly) just what's available on Yahoo Finance – so it's missing a lot of upgrades and downgrades and stuff like that.
- I only How many times a day do you pull news? It's not practical/feasible to do more, so This is not an instant news search
- Things may be worded in strange/unexpected ways. For example, an earnings announcement might include “Earnings” or “Financials” or “Qx Results.” So you may need to get creative with your search
- Nowadays, many media like to make headlines, so You usually won't see the actual keywords in the title. The headline might not be “Company X gets FDA approval,” but “Why Company
- Companies may issue press releases weeks before the actual event, so Some things may not be immediately actionable
- For those using Unfortunately, the Australian and Canadian versions of SwingTradeBot get fewer headlines More than the American version.
- Stocks that recently received FDA approval (Note that I used “FDA” as the search term, rather than something like “FDA Approved” because if I had used a longer term, the titles might not match exactly. In fact, one of the titles is “FDA Grants PMA approve……” )
- Stocks that are about to undergo or have recently undergone secondary issuance. Again, I used a shorter search term (“on sale” instead of “secondary release”) to increase the chance of finding a title that matched my intent but didn't exactly match “secondary release”)
Let me know what you think of the scan in the comments. and how you or might use it. There are a few things I could do to enhance it, but I don't want to spend time on them if no one will use them:
- Smarter/more complex search terms. So it's possible to do things like find titles that contain all word lists (one and two and three) or any word list (one or two or three).
- Allows you to choose to include news searches in Combined scan. Then, for example, you could scan for stocks with expansion breakouts and any headlines you care about.
