One of two tight matches involving AAPI candidates is about to be recounted.

As of press time, the 6th candidate for the Newcastle City Council, Frank Irigon, and Paul Charbonneau have only seven votes-Charbonneau leads.

King County Election (KCE) Communications Officer Harley Watkins told Northwest Asia Weekly, “As of now, we have included the Newcastle game in the mandatory recount.”

The thresholds and types that trigger the forced recount are:

Machine: The difference is less than 2,000 votes and is also less than ½ of 1% of the total votes of the two candidates.

Hand: The difference between the votes of the two candidates is less than 150 votes, and it is less than 1/4 of the 1% of the total votes.

According to Watkins, in this case, it will be a manual recount, “it will take a few days.”

In another intense competition, KCE stated that it would prove that Hoang Tran was the winner of the Federal Way City Council Position No. 4 competition.

“Usually, we see the required percentages to knock the game out of the recount range-just like… in the case of Tran/Daniel Miller,” Watking said. “The current gap in that game is 0.52%, just over the threshold.”
