Seoul, South Korea (AP)-The freshest face among Korean influencers is no longer the usual celebrities in their 20s. Instead, entertainment and social media focus on the new generation: the old generation.

The Korean entertainment industry once did not see elderly women because the industry insisted on strictly conservative traditional female roles and only portrayed them as loyal mothers.

But in recent advertising and entertainment series, older women are at the front and center.

The forerunner of this trend is Oscar winner Yoon Yu-jeong, the 74-year-old “Minari” actor who promoted Oriental Beer and the Zig Zag shopping app in two recent advertising campaigns.

The beer video highlights the novelty of its spokesperson. He said: “People like me appear in beer ads, and the world has become better.” Youn holds Cass beer in her hand and says that she comes by being who she is. Make friends and suggest that beer can help people eliminate social embarrassment.

South Korean producer Kim Sehee said that Youn’s Oscar award earlier this year inspired his entertainment series “Wassup K-Grandma”.

He said that young Koreans have developed a new interest in their elders, and a new word “harmae nial”-the Korean word “harmoni” or a mixture of grandmother and English “millennium” came into being.

According to Kim, the drama that aired in May was one of the first Korean TV dramas featuring a grandmother. It allows international guests to live with Korean grandmothers as temporary son-in-laws. The color of this series comes from the grandmothers trying to communicate with their grandmothers, sharing home-cooked dishes and decades of ginseng wine.

South Korea’s popular YouTube anchor Park Markli said that South Korea’s attitudes towards gender and age are changing rapidly.

“In the past, people thought that women should be just housewives cooking at home, but that was a long time ago. People have to adapt to the current era,” she said.

Park Geun-hye, 74, is one of the leading figures in the Korean boom. Her YouTube channel “Grandma Korea” has more than 1.32 million subscribers. In her video, Park Geun-hye swears while watching a Korean drama and yells when he is paragliding for the first time.

Park Geun-hye’s success paved the way for others. Jang Myung-sook released the secrets of fashion and lifestyle on her channel “Milanonna”. A 10-year-old man called “Gganzi” grandma told and shared a personal story of living in the Japanese colonial period. The 76-year-old YouTuber shows off her “single life” on “G Food.” “

“I want to tell grandmothers to try everything they want to do instead of worrying about their age,” Parker told The Associated Press.

“For young people… as long as you are healthy, you are fine,” she said. “Please keep fighting and good luck.”
