American adults seem to be disillusioned with American federal government agencies, and new opinion polls show that only 12% of people are confident Congress.
Gallup Released a new poll On Wednesday, this showed that only about one-third (33%) of American adults expressed “very” or “quite” confidence in well-known American institutions. The survey was conducted from June 1 to July 5, and the margin of sampling error was plus or minus 3%.
It is worth noting that the survey found that only 12% of the respondents expressed confidence in Congress, and voters of the two major political parties expressed doubts about the national legislature.Among Republicans, Only 7% of respondents said they have confidence in Congress, and only 17% said Democratic Party.
When these numbers are broken down more carefully, only 5% of American adults said they have “a lot” confidence in Congress, and only 7% said they have “a lot” confidence in the legislature. At the same time, 47% said they had “almost no” confidence in Congress, and 37% said they had only “some” confidence in Congress.

Although few Americans expressed confidence in most American institutions, the level of Congress was the lowest of all institutions that Gallup asked interviewees. In addition to Congress, public opinion polls also include public schools, TV news, presidents, large companies, small businesses, police, Supreme Court And the army.
After Congress, TV news has the second lowest degree of trust. Only 16% of American adults expressed confidence in mainstream media. Large companies ranked third, with only 18% of Americans holding a positive view of the organization.
Trust in the President and the Supreme Court is also low. Only 38% of Americans said they have confidence in the presidential system, while only 36% of Americans said they have confidence in the country’s highest judicial body. The military is the most popular organization, with 69% of respondents expressing confidence in the military.
The new poll is consistent with a related survey by the Pew Research Center, the results of which were released in May. Previous polls found that less than a quarter of Americans expressed confidence that the government would do the right thing. Only 2% said they believed the government would “almost always” do the right thing, while 22% said they would do it “most of the time”.
Other related polls conducted by Axios and Ipsos in February showed that most Americans stated that their confidence in the federal government was actually boosted by the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although 45% said their confidence in the government has improved, only 26% said the situation has gotten worse.
