Mbombe 4 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (ICV)

Global aerospace and technology company Paramount Group announced that its Mbombe 4 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (ICV) has been selected by five sovereign nations to equip their armed forces with the world’s most advanced armored vehicle innovation and technology.

In less than three years since its debut at the Abu Dhabi International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) 2019, the Mbombe 4 has generated significant interest in the next generation of survivability, mobility and resilience in the armed forces.

The “Ultimate Warrior” Mbombe 4 is currently in production in Africa and Asia, with more than 150 units in production or on order for global delivery or deployment.

The Mbombe 4’S’ is a special regional variant equipped with the latest mission critical technology for optimum desert performance, enabling the vehicle to excel in harsh desert climates and conditions.

The continued global expansion of the Mbombe 4 is a testament to the success of the portable manufacturing model pioneered by the Paramount Group. In 2021, Paramount Group announced a partnership with Indian engineering technology group Kalyani Group. This led to mass production of the Kalyani 4 in India, which was subsequently ordered by the Indian Ministry of Defense.

In assessing the resilience of global manufacturing and defense supply chains, which are highly vulnerable to external shocks today, Paramount Group CEO Steve Grisel suggested that portable production of interoperable platforms such as the Mbombe 4 could be done entirely in-house. Partner countries play a key role in the creation of a defense industrial base.

“Mbombe 4 and its ability to evolve reflect world-leading innovation, affordability, and significant local production opportunities, which allow our manufacturing expertise to be replicated globally. After implementing our local production model in multiple locations around the world , we are uniquely positioned to provide industry partners and governments with the ability to build local manufacturing facilities, transfer skills and technology and start producing vehicles in less than a year. Mbombe 4, like all of our other technology platforms, starts from Designed from the outset for production in the customer’s country. This is a key requirement for governments looking to strengthen their defense industry capabilities.”

Manufactured with an extremely unique clean board design and equipped with the latest technologies essential to addressing the challenges of modern battlefield asymmetry, the platform offers a very high degree of ballistic and mine protection (eg, crew compartment STANAG 4569-Level 3 , Blast Protection STANAG 4569-Level 4a and 4b, protection recognized by NATO Standardization Protocol, which sets world-leading occupant safety benchmarks) and independently verified protection against 50kg TNT side blasts or roadside bombs.

Additionally, a newly tested and certified additional armor and light protection system developed by Paramount Group enhances Mbombe 4’s protection to cover all level 3 threats within NATO STANAG 4569, offering some of the highest levels achievable globally protection. Armored vehicles are in the process of being at the same level.

The 16-ton Mbombe 4 can be equipped with various weapon systems and loaded with ammunition, crew and supplies. Other key features of the Mbombe 4 include a burst speed of 140 km/h for excellent maneuverability. The platform also features industry-unique flat ground lightning protection and a rear door ramp design that ensures rapid crew deployment when the vehicle is stationary or moving. “The Paramount Group believes in global partnerships. Mbombe 4 provides localized high-skilled training and job creation for our partners and customers to produce state-of-the-art technology domestically, which is essential to enhancing the modern defense capabilities of any country, now and in the future. It matters,” Grisel concluded.
