Polestar’s “beast” concept pushes the boundaries of design and engineering


The beauty of this electric car is a “beast.” A new experimental car from Polestar aims to push the limits of the company’s electric vehicle technology. The performance-focused version of Polestar 2 made its debut at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said: “I challenged the design and engineering teams to play with Polestar 2 and made a strong statement for Goodwood. “I have been enjoying our Gothenburg campus for months. Driving around another experimental Polestar 2, nicknamed the “Beast”, which inspired the team to design this version for Goodwood. We want to show our muscles and explore opportunities. “

The Polestar brand is no stranger to high-end, high-performance machines. The company’s roots lie in motorsports, and before being acquired by Geely and transformed into an electric car brand, its energy was concentrated in this area.

Beast was originally the long-range dual-motor version of Polestar 2. Its dual motors can now produce 476 horsepower, which is higher than 408 horsepower. The engineers increased the car’s tracks by 10 mm on each side, lowered the ride height by 30 mm, and widened the wheel arches.

It now uses 21-inch glossy and matte painted wheels wrapped in Pirelli PZero Rosso high-performance tires borrowed from Polestar 1. Braking power is provided by the six-piston Akebono front brake, which is also derived from the Polestar 1 setting.

“The Beast” will take off from the starting line in the first half of the day, and then be displayed in the paddock.

The front spring stiffness of the hatchback has been increased by 80%, and the rear stiffness has been increased by 40%. The shock absorber has been upgraded to an Öhlins three-way performance unit, which is about 30% harder than the original. Polestar added Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered carbon fiber front suspension struts and custom-made rear struts to the model to increase rigidity.

Polestar provided this car with new front and rear bumpers and a new snow matte paint, with magnesium matte racing stripes from beginning to end. The car’s front grille replaces the traditional grille on electric vehicles, using color coding, and the side mirrors have a glossy black gloss.

Joakim Rydholm, Polestar’s chief chassis engineer, will drive the car during the climb. After the event, it can be seen in First Glance Paddock for the rest of the festival.
