Porsche debuts the 718 Cayman GT4 RS at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Clubsport high-performance model

In conjunction with the Los Angeles Auto Show, Porsche also launched the 718 Cayman GT4 RS and 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

The RS model is a sporty street-legal performance model, and Clubsport is designed to stay on the track.

Several design changes have been implemented to accommodate the performance focus of GT4 RS. The small windows that usually appear on the driver and passenger side have been replaced by air intakes. The side air intakes of the rear quarter panel have been adjusted to meet the higher cooling requirements of the car.

Carbon fiber reinforced plastics have been used to make front fenders and hoods to maintain the focus on lightweight construction. The door panel is equipped with fabric door ring and storage net.

The fixed tail wing on GT4 RS adopts gooseneck installation and aluminum bracket.

With the optional Weissach kit, the front trunk lid, process air intake, cooling air intake, air box cover, exterior mirror cover and rear wing are all made of carbon fiber.

On Clubsport, natural fiber composites are used throughout the body design of the front cover, doors, rear wing, fenders and other aerodynamic components.

The adjustable suspension and the adjustable spring and anti-roll bar rate use GT4 RS specific damper settings.

Improvements have been made to the track, and Clubsport’s suspension has been revised to improve responsiveness. The shock absorber, ride height, camber and toe can be adjusted.

For the noise-restricted track, Porsche provided Clubsport with two exhaust systems.

The GT4 RS uses the naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine of the 911 GT3 Cup car, which can output 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. The unique seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) is designed to shift gears quickly to maximize the performance of the car.

This setting allows 3.2 seconds from 0 to 60 mph.

Under the hood of Clubsport, a 4.0-liter six-cylinder horizontally opposed engine is used in conjunction with PDK to produce 500 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque.

When using the Weissach kit, the upper part of the instrument panel is cushioned with Race-Tex.

Clubsport’s steering wheel uses natural fiber composite materials.

Clubsport’s interior features a welded roll cage, adjustable Recaro racing seats, fire extinguishers and a built-in air jack system.

Porsche’s stability management system has been adjusted on the track to provide Clubsport with traction control, anti-lock braking and updated stability control.

Porsche Design has created a Chronograph 718 Cayman GT4 RS watch, which will be exclusively available to GT4 RS buyers.

The retail price of the GT4 RS is US$141,700 (not including destination charges), and the car is expected to arrive at the dealership in the summer of 2022.

Clubsport models will be sold through Porsche Motorsport North America, starting at $229,000. The company said that the car will participate in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and the SRO GT4 America and GT America series of competitions in 2022.
