Represented Mark Wayne Mullin (R-OK) in defense of the congressional police who shot and killed the mob Ashley Babbitt, and broke up with the former president Donald TrumpVersion of the event.
Talking about C-Span Views of the house on January 6 Before the show was released on Sunday, Rep. Mullin resolutely defended the official’s actions in the Capitol when the mob rushed into the building.
Mullin broke Trump’s condemnation of the police officer and said: “He is the last person in the world to use force like this, and he is reluctant to do so.
“I know a fact because he came over after the incident. He was exhausted physically and mentally. I actually gave him a hug and said,’Sir, you did what you should do.'”
Mullin continued: “He is doing his job. He has to do his job because there are (House) members on the balcony.
“If you want to show your weapon… and give orders, but they still don’t listen, they are still close, you have no choice. Either you must release your weapon at that time… Self-defense or that weapon will be taken from you, it will be used on you, and it will put all our lives in danger.”
His comments contrasted sharply with the former president, who publicly attacked Babbitt’s death and turned the fatal shooting into a partisan topic.

Earlier this month, Trump spoke of the riots in an interview. Fox News Host Maria Bartiromo (Maria Bartiromo) and The police officer who claimed to have shot Babbitt was a “Democrat.”
He said: “Who shot Ashley Babbitt? Why did they keep this secret? Who shot an innocent, wonderful, and incredible woman, who is a military woman?”
Trump added: “I also heard that it is a senior official, the head of security of a Democrat. We will wait and see, because it will come out.”
Babbitt, 35, a veteran of the Air Force, has shared many posts about the QAnon conspiracy theory on social media, and he has also posted support for Trump.
The Department of Justice said in a statement that it found no evidence that the police officer violated federal law, nor did it find information that contradicted his belief that the shooting must be shot.
The press release said: “Officials checked the video clips posted on social media, the statements of the police officers and other police officers involved and witnesses to the incident, the physical evidence at the shooting scene and the results of the shooting.”
It added: “According to that investigation, officials determined that there was insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution.”
Weekly newspaper Rep. Mullin and Trump’s office have been contacted for comments.
