What is haddock?
Haddock is a mild, low-fat white fish similar to cod, with a firm texture and a slightly sweet taste. Haddock recipes can be prepared in a variety of ways including roasted, broiled, broiled, poached or steamed.
Baking is one of my favorite ways to cook fish recipes, though, because not only are they fast, but they are mostly hands-off.The method for this haddock recipe is similar to Parmesan Tilapia and Parmesan Crusted Salmon, except we topped the fish with a nut rind instead of Parmesan. If you want an easier way to prepare the baked haddock recipe, you can follow my recipe grilled salmon or baked cod And simply use haddock instead.
Haddock Recipe Ingredients and Substitutions
This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for a haddock recipe, what each ingredient does in the recipe, and substitution options. For measurements, see recipe card below.
- haddock fillets – For best results, haddock fillets should be about 1.5 inches thick, but 1-inch thick fillets are fine.
- almond – Crunchy nut skins! You can substitute pistachios, walnuts, or pecans for almonds.
- salted butter – Adds flavor and binds the crust together. You can use olive oil or butter instead of regular butter. If you do, you will need to add a little more salt as they are unsalted.
- lemon – You will need lemon zest and lemon juiceAdd optional lemon slices for garnish.
- crushed garlic – I used freshly crushed garlic for the best flavor, but you can use 1/2 tsp garlic powder For convenience. Minced garlic is not recommended here, it is easier to get angry.
- onion powder – Adds subtle onion flavor and depth to seared haddock.
- sea salt and black pepper
- fresh parsley – If you don’t have fresh, you can substitute 1 tsp dried parsley or oregano for this roasted haddock recipe. Save on extra decorations!

Tip: Use the coating on top only.
This recipe is best served as a crust on top rather than a coating because the nuts don’t stick well when you try to coat the whole fish.
