BrightFarms said that after receiving notices of eight suspected consumer illnesses, it issued a recall notice “very cautiously”, some of whom purchased or consumed the recalled products in June.
BrightFarms said in a statement that it “has begun taking steps to strengthen their already stringent food safety protocols, including testing all products produced at its Rochelle plant for exposure to Salmonella before distribution.”
Salmonella can cause serious infections in children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems, and in some cases can lead to fatal infections. In healthy people, it can cause fever, diarrhea (possibly bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, it can cause arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
If you develop symptoms of Salmonella infection, seek medical attention immediately.
The company stated that the recall did not affect other BrightFarms greenhouse products.
