The Seattle/King County clinic is preparing to open Oct. 20-23 in Seattle Center, offering free eye exams and prescription glasses to more than 1,000 people in need. To achieve this, organizers are recruiting hundreds of volunteers. Although no dental or medical services will be offered this year, the clinic still expects high interest from potential patients after a hiatus of more than two years.
“If you have vision problems that affect driving, reading or vision, it’s very difficult to work, go to school, or get through the day, but many people don’t have access to the vision services they need,” said Dennis Worsham, interim director of the Seattle and King County Department of Public Health . “Even if you have health insurance, many plans don’t cover vision care, and there are few options for free or low-cost prescription glasses. The Seattle/King County clinic provides immediate relief for those facing barriers to getting critical vision care.”
Led by the Seattle Center and the Seattle Center Foundation, the Seattle/King County Clinic produces in partnership with healthcare organizations, civic agencies, nonprofits, and private industry. Since its inception in 2014, more than 22,000 volunteers have served as the backbone of the clinic.
