Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Majorcas self-isolates after COVID exposure


The Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, is currently in self-isolation after being exposed to COVID-19. On Monday, Mayorkas contacted a department official who later tested positive for COVID-19.

Mayorkas has cancelled all upcoming events and is currently working virtual. He also postponed the “State of Homeland Security Speech” originally scheduled for the upcoming Thursday.

Majorcas has been calling for the encouragement of Americans to get the COVID-19 vaccine. In June, Mayorkas and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell both talked about the importance of preventing the spread of COVID-19.

“We want to encourage people to roll up their sleeves to get the COVID-19 vaccine,” Majorcas said. “The vaccine is safe and effective. Anyone over 12 years old can use it for free.”
