Bystanders may have saved the arm of a surfer who was bitten by a shark after making a temporary tourniquet with a surfboard leg rope on Monday.
The New South Wales Police said in a statement on Monday that, according to reports, the victim Joe Hoffman was in his 20s and was surfing at Crescent Head in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, at about 4:30 pm local time. The shark attacked him.
The surfer’s right arm was badly injured, and the shark took a large piece from his surfboard. After the attack, he was taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
