Simone Byers returns to Houston Airport to greet the hero after the Tokyo Olympics


Olympic gymnasts Simone Byers and Jordan Chilis received a warm welcome when they arrived in Texas from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Olympic Games Thursday afternoon.

When the two of them descended from the escalator at Bush Intercontinental Airport, they were welcomed by a group of supporters including family and friends. The children and fans held up signs to express their support for the gymnasts, just as Byers returned as a national hero after the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

ABC 13 News interviewed her sister Aria and father about Biles finally returning home from the Olympics.

“Simona did this for herself. She has been away from her family for a long time, so I think it’s a good thing that we welcome her back. Everyone is very emotional,” said her sister Aria.

Her sister also talked about her sister’s difficulty in dealing with health issues while competing overseas.

“It’s really hard because I think she needs us, but seeing her today, I know she’s okay, I know she wants to go home,” Aria Biles said.

On July 27th, Byers withdrew from the game after dealing with the “turns and turns” and feeling that he was carrying the “weight of the world” on his shoulders.

On July 31, Byers withdrew from two more Olympic Games and returned to the Olympic Games on August 3. She won a bronze medal in the women’s crossbar final and a silver medal in the women’s team competition.

“I didn’t expect to win a medal today, I just wanted to play for me, and that’s what I did,” Byers told media members at the Olympics after receiving the medal.

“I am proud of going out after experiencing this.”

Byers is currently tied with Shannon Miller, becoming the athlete with the most medals among American Olympic gymnasts.
