The Ministry of Defense of Singapore (MINDEF) announced on the 50th that the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) is reorganizing its Naval Diving Force (NDU) to put new naval vessels into service.day December 9th anniversary of the founding of the elite troops.
The new ship, called Combatant Craft Large (CCL), uses a 26m long aluminum hull and 5m beams. It is being used as part of the development of the NDU maritime security mission capability, although it will certainly support its typical underwater And surface special operations missions.
MINDEF noted that CCL was “designed and built locally” with the help of the Defense Science and Technology Agency (DSTA). The ship is driven by a pair of MTU engines to drive the Rolls-Royce Kamewa waterjet, enabling it to reach a specified speed of more than 35 knots within a range of 400 nautical miles.
The CCL is operated by a four-person crew, including the captain, helmsman, navigator and engineer, and reportedly can provide up to six additional personnel.
Its main weapon is a Leonardo Hitrole G remote-controlled weapon station installed on the front deck, equipped with a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun. Mast-mounted electro-optical (EO) systems with eye-safe lasers, and airborne command and control (C2) systems and data links can improve situational awareness.
“CCL is equipped with the latest photoelectric sensors, so it can operate day and night,” MINDEF said.
“Furthermore, a comprehensive communications suite helps with [RSN] Ships and onshore headquarters,” the ministry added. “This allows for common maritime situational awareness to provide quick and effective response during operations. “
NDU also operates a customized 11.5-meter long rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) fleet provided by Zodiac Milpro, which can carry up to 15 people in standard configuration for maritime interception and boarding operations, and is designed as a medium-sized combat boat ( CCM) service. The CCM is usually equipped with a 7.62 mm general-purpose machine gun located near the bow, but heavier weapons can also be installed if necessary.
MINDEF also announced on the same day that the NDU will be reorganized to better meet the ever-changing operational requirements, namely a special operations group, special boat group, clearance diving group, underwater demolition group, frogman school and 180 squadron.
Both the CCL and CCM platforms will be assigned to the special vessel group, which is responsible for cultivating, training and maintaining professional vessels.
