New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that many people in New Zealand have been stabbed in terrorist attacks.
A man inspired by the ideology of the Islamic State entered a Countdown supermarket in Auckland and stabbed at least 6 people. police Ardern said the suspect was shot and killed within 60 seconds of the attack.
“A violent extremist carried out a terrorist attack on innocent New Zealanders,” Jacinda Ardern Said at a briefing on Friday.
“This is someone our national security agency knows, who is being watched and constantly monitored. Very few people fall into this category,” Ardern said, adding that she personally felt guilty about hearing about the attack.
The suspect is a Sri Lankan national and has been living in New Zealand since 2016. He was described by the Prime Minister as a “lone wolf” inspired by extremist ideology.
