Comcast announced on November 22 that it provided a total of $1 million in grants to more than 100 small businesses owned by people of color in King and Pierce counties.
The winners came from nearly 6,700 entrepreneurs selected through the Comcast RISE program across the country, which provides marketing, technical and capital support to small business owners.
Comcast RISE stands for Representation, Investment, Strength and Empowerment. It is part of Project UP. Project UP is a comprehensive program designed to advance digital fairness and help underrepresented small business owners obtain the digital tools and funding they need to thrive. .
Some of the AAPI companies that will receive a $10,000 grant include: Kamonegi, Loak Toung Thai, Maneki, Chang Thai, Savor Seattle Food Tours, Sip Thai Bistro, Mi La Cay, Nhop Nhep, Viet-Wah, Pho V&V and Bellden Café.
Other small businesses will receive marketing or technical support, such as TV campaigns, TV commercial production, or consulting services from Effectv, Comcast Cable’s advertising sales department, or Comcast Business’s computer equipment, Internet, voice, or network security services.
In the year since its establishment, Comcast RISE has provided more than US$11 million in grants and US$50 million in in-kind support for marketing and technical services, affecting more than 6,700 people of color in 432 cities in 34 states Kind of entrepreneurs. By the end of 2022, 13,000 companies across the country are expected to benefit from the Comcast RISE program, whether through grant programs or through resources provided by Effectv and Comcast Business.
