Lawrence Matsuda
Lawrence Matsuda has published a new book of poetry, Shape Shifter: A Minidoka Concentration Camp Legacy. Autographed copies can only be found at Kobo Seattle in the International section or on its website.
“Shape Shifter” expresses the echoing trauma of the Matsuda family being held in the Minidoka concentration camp during World War II.
This family is one of 120,000 Japanese Americans who were forced into American concentration camps by our government at the hands of bayonets-wielding American soldiers without due process and without committing any crime.
Born in Minidoka, Matsuda has written three books of poetry, a fourth with Tess Gallagher, and a graphic novel about the Japanese-American 442nd Regiment Combat Team in World War II. The animated portion of the novel won regional Emmys in 2015 and 2016.
