Support for Korean Olympians after online sex discrimination

In recent years, young Korean women have achieved unprecedented success in their election campaigns-fighting to legalize abortion and organizing an extensive #MeToo运动, And took action against spy videos secretly shot in public places, which led to the largest feminist demonstration in South Korea’s history.

There were also protests against the country’s strict beauty standards-activists shared viral videos of themselves cutting their hair and smashing cosmetics.

But this also triggered a strong backlash in the country, where feminism is often framed as selfish and anti-male.

Feminist activist Quan Xiuxian told AFP: “It is very frustrating to see women including Olympic champions being forced to explain or even apologize for their choices and bodies. This shouldn’t really be anyone’s business.”

“This incident once again shows the scale of gender discrimination in our society.”
