A 16-year-old boy in Singapore suffered a heart attack a few days after being injected with Pfizer’s BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
Singapore medical investigators said the teenager developed acute severe myocarditis six days after receiving the first dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. He later had a heart attack.
“Myocarditis may be a serious adverse event caused by his COVID-19 vaccine, which may have been exacerbated by his heavy weightlifting and a large amount of coffee through energy drinks and supplements,” the Ministry of Health (MOH) reported on Monday. A press statement said Yahoo News.
The teenager is now recovering and is undergoing hospital rehabilitation treatment before he can resume activities. Ministry of Health officials said that the boy is expected to be discharged from the hospital in the next few weeks.
The ministry stated: “The independent clinical team appointed to evaluate and decide the VIFAP application found that although he has made good improvements, he will need a period of treatment and rehabilitation before he can continue to recover because of his serious and critical condition. ”
The teenager will receive $225,000 in financial assistance from the country’s Vaccine Injury Financial Assistance Program (VIFAP).
Health officials urge young men to avoid strenuous activities a week after vaccination and seek medical help if they develop chest pain or shortness of breath.
It is also recommended that people who develop myocarditis after the first dose of mRNA vaccine do not receive the second dose.
A study conducted by doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital found that teenage boys are 14 times more likely to develop myocarditis after receiving Pfizer injections.
