SEATTLE (AP)-The Seattle Mariners recovered left-handed Yuki Kikuchi from the injury list on July 12, making him eligible for the All-Star Game.
Kikuchi was selected to the American League All-Star team for the first time in his career and is the only representative of Seattle.
The Mariners included Kikuchi on the injury list on July 11, but did not disclose the injury. Manager Scott Servez said he could not comment, but was not worried about Kikuchi’s condition.
Seattle used the position of the open list to promote top catching star Carl Rowley, who made his major league debut against the Los Angeles Angels on July 11.
The Mariners selected infielder Donovan Walton to Triple-A Tacoma and designated Will Vest as the mission reliever to restore Kikuchi.
Kikuchi has been one of the top left-handers in baseball this season. This is his third time since signing with the Mariners and transferring from Japan to the major leagues. He is 6-4 with a 3.48 SR and 98 strikeouts.
