Police said a 5-year-old boy was allegedly shot and killed by his “drunken” mother in Columbus, Ohio on Friday.
The Columbus Police Department said in a statement that the identity of the boy was not disclosed and he was taken to the National Children’s Hospital after his mother Trenise Turner shot him in the knees. freedAs of Saturday, the child is in a “steady state” and will undergo corrective surgery.
Police said that after the boy was brought in by other family members, the hospital alerted them to the shooting.
According to investigators, Turner was “intoxicated” on a sofa in a residence, with her son lying next to her. According to the police, she allegedly “pointed a pistol at several adults in the house and threatened them”.
The press release stated that the woman was putting the gun back in her purse. She allegedly “fired a shot and hit her son in the leg.”
Turner was arrested and charged with felony and misdemeanor crimes against children, and domestic violence assault.
Turner is currently being held in Franklin County Jail. She is scheduled to be tried on Tuesday, Sisi Report.

At around 11:49 pm on Tuesday evening, Maple Heights police received a report that a child was shot in a house on Maple Heights Boulevard. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, Cleveland 19 News Report.
A neighbor claimed that the child might have picked up a gun, which was missed by a man in the residence, but it is not clear which man it was. The investigation is currently underway.
