ingredients you need
This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for Garlic Butter Keto Bread, what each ingredient does in the recipe, and substitution options. See recipe card below for measurements.
For bread:
- Wholesome Yum Keto Bread Flour – the only bread mix I use! It’s made from a mix of almond flour and whey protein powder, and the bread actually puffs up with air bubbles. It’s the best chewy bread and tastes like traditional bread (all with real ingredients) – it hardens when you bake it in the oven.
- butter – I prefer grass-fed butter, but any unsalted variety will do. Soften it to room temperature to use with the bread mix.
- Egg – Use whole large eggs.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk – Avoid flavored or sweetened varieties.
SWAP: Want to use a different milk?
most cartons Keto Milk Alternatives will work here, including store bought or Homemade Almond Milk, hemp milkcoconut milk drinks (liquid in the carton, not the thick one in the can), or even watered down heavy cream
Toppings:
- salted butter – Make sure it has softened to room temperature. If you want to use the same unsalted butter as the bread mix, just add 3/8 tsp sea salt to 3/4 cup unsalted butter.
- garlic – I highly recommend fresh garlic for the best flavor, but canned garlic will also work. (Any of these are preferred over garlic powder.) To convert the 10 fresh garlic cloves in this recipe to canned, use a 5 teaspoon can.
- fresh parsley – Fresh tastes best, but you can substitute 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley with 2 teaspoons of dried parsley if necessary.
- grated parmesan cheese – Mozzarella will work too, but the final texture will be different.

How to Make Tomato Garlic Bread
This section shows how to make low-carb garlic bread, with step-by-step photos and details on the technique. See the recipe card below for full instructions.
- Prepare the bread. Make the bread dough according to the directions on the Wholesome Yum Bread Mix package (steps 1-4 on the back of the package). You cream the butter, add the eggs and milk, then add the bread mixture.
- shape. Place dough on a lined sheet pan to make long breads (similar to baguettes). Score the bread to vent.

- bake. Bake until golden brown (a toothpick inserted should come out clean) and cool completely.
- piece. Slice bread horizontally and lengthwise, then cut into 1.5-inch slices (about 16 total slices).

- butter. In a small bowl, mash butter, garlic and parsley. Spread the butter mixture on the bread, then sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on top (if using).

- bake. Place the slices on a baking sheet and bake in the oven until the butter is melted and the edges of the bread are toasted.

Variety
- use different herbs (or spices) – Use traditional Italian herbs like rosemary or oregano (or Italian seasoning), or get creative with red pepper flakes, fresh dill, or scallions.
- try various cheeses – Parmesan goes perfectly with garlic, but you can use any ketchup you like. Go bold and try this bread with blue cheese or feta!
- Add toppings – Caramelized Onions, sun dried tomatoesotherwise artichoke hearts would be delicious on this bread.
