You can grow tomatoes. You just have to figure out which ones want to grow for you. Here are 3 ways to find the best tomato varieties for you.
How to Choose the Right Tomato Variety for Your Growing
It’s hard to thrive when you’re out of your element.
For me, the ocean is not in my element. I make minions swim in deep water.
It’s easy to imagine those ghastly creatures rushing up from the depths, with eyes like fishbowls, mouths gaping, rows of teeth aimed at my legs, intent on dragging me to the depths as the air is expelled from my lungs The last futile scream of terror.
I have no idea. Do any of you feel this way?
If you don’t, take a moment to look up “gulper eels”. You will never swim again.

All that said, the ocean is not my element. I am happier on land, preferably in my garden a few miles from the coast. There, I will thrive.
Likewise, if you raise rabbits like chickens, they will be unhappy – and likely die. Or if you paved paradise and built a parking lot, you’d make Joni Mitchell unhappy.
Not all tomato varieties are created equal
Both flora and fauna are adaptable and comfortable under certain conditions. The same goes for tomato varieties. Not all tomatoes are created equal.
Every time I try to grow large-fruited tomato varieties in tropical climates, I fail. Sure, I’d buy a tomato or two, but nothing justifies the care and work involved.I love Romas and better boy and early girls While I give them a lot of care, but by far my best tomato growing luck has been cherry tomatoes.

Cherries take off in hot, humid, rainy climates. Here in Florida and the sunny south, one tomato variety in particular is a total monster, outgrowing every other tomato in the universe.is called Everglades Tomatoesthe tiny currant-type tomato is said to be a native variety.
I started recommending it to my readers a few years ago after seeing it grow like a monster in adverse conditions, even accidentally perennialized and reseeded. Since then, I have received photos of Everglades tomatoes and their rampant growth habit.
Like DeAnna sent me this photo with the caption “it’s taking over the world”.
If you live in a hot, humid climate, try Everglades tomatoes.
Everglades tomatoes spread across the ground, producing hundreds of small fruits that require little care. Did I tell you about their self-sowing?

Everglades tomatoes are easy to self-seek.
Now That is a tomato.
However, this tomato variety isn’t any good for hamburger slicing or sauce making. It’s almost the berry equivalent of a tomato, great for eating fresh and picking by kids, but not as useful as a saucy roma or a juicy Mortgage Lifter.
However, in your climate and soil, you may have better luck growing tomatoes with larger fruit. Let’s take a look at what I think are the best ways to pick quality tomato varieties for your climate.
#1.Find out commercially grown tomato varieties

Although commercial tomato varieties aren’t on most gardeners’ “favorites” lists, researching local commercial tomato growers in your area can get you started on finding varieties that are right for your climate. If there are tomato farmers near you, call and ask what varieties of tomatoes they grow. Chances are these varieties will grow in your garden too.

If you bought some locally grown tomatoes at the farm stand, go ahead and sow them. Even if they are hybrids, you will still get decent tomatoes. Even better if they are an open pollinating type. Tomatoes grown in your climate should be better suited to your climate than seeds purchased from other regions.
#2.Ask local gardeners and experts
Often the best sources of gardening information are other gardeners. If you can join a local gardening group on Meetup.com—or just drive around looking for a backyard garden, say hi to the owners and strike up a conversation—you can learn from the successes and failures of others. It may also help to call your local extension office and ask them what tomato varieties are easiest to grow.

Finally, find a local gardening blog. My website is loaded with information about gardening in Florida, but it may not be helpful for gardeners in New York. For example, if you’re in Albany, look up “Albany Gardening Blog” and see what you get.
#3.experiment like a boss

My personal favorite last option is to buy a variety of seeds and plant them.Go to a torrent site like Baker Creekor Southern Seed Exchangeor territory seedor Burpeeor your local seed rack at Home Depot, then buy six packs of different varieties of tomato seeds and plant a few of each to see which works best.
have Nothing Makes You a Better Gardener Than Experimenting.
But remember, just because a breed does well — or fails — one year doesn’t mean it’ll do the same the next. Insects and pests as well as weather conditions change from year to year. If you really like a certain tomato variety, I’d recommend growing it for a few years in a row before deciding whether it’s good or bad for growing.
You can grow tomatoes. You just have to figure out which ones want to grow for you. There is almost certainly a good option in your area. Keep your eyes open and continue your experiments. You will find success.
