Trudeau makes history

For the first time in the history of the Washington State legislature, the Senate committee will be led by two South Asian women. After State Senator Manka Dhingra was elected as the chairman of the committee, State Senator Yasmin Trudeau was elected as the vice chairman of the Senate Law and Judiciary Committee.

Trudeau previously served as the legislative director in the Office of Attorney General Bob Ferguson and helped support legislation to protect victims of assaults and domestic violence, and improved law enforcement data collection systems.

Trudeau said: “I have seen what they can do when our communities comment on gaps in our system, and now I am very happy to continue this momentum as the vice chair of the Law and Justice Committee. “

Her choice will be formally determined in the full Senate vote on the first day of the 2022 Legislative Session.
