A Japanese court ruled that after the Hiroshima atomic bomb exploded in 1945 during World War II, 84 people exposed to radioactive “black rain” could receive the government’s national medical benefits.
The Hiroshima High Court upheld the District Court’s ruling in July 2020, which declared that dozens of people who fell ill after the bombing but were located outside the area previously set by the government should also be proven to be survivors of the bombing.
Kyodo News reported that the 84 plaintiffs were all in their 70s to 90s. They stated that they developed cancer after being exposed to radioactive rain (also known as “black rain”) and digesting water and food. And other diseases. Radiation pollution caused by the Hiroshima atomic bomb explosion.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
