What to pack and what not to pack in your carry-on baggage

Creating a practical and simple capsule wardrobe is the key to light travel with hand luggage!

If you are not sure what to pack and what not to pack in your carry-on luggage, we provide a handy guide to help you solve the problem. Let’s face it: travel is wonderful, but it can also be stressful. We want your vacation to be as easy and stress-free as possible, which is why we created Krazy Butterfly. Using travel luggage that best suits your needs is one way to reduce the drama when traveling. The first thing you need to do is to learn to use packing cubes to help you arrange and even compress your items to maximize your space. The following suggestions will help you set up a “portable wardrobe” for an exciting holiday.

But first, why choose hand luggage instead of checked luggage?

One of the reasons for choosing carry-on luggage is that it provides personal convenience. In terms of convenience, the handbag is clearly the winner. Manipulating it at the airport will not make you sweat. It’s all about the wheels now! Due to health issues, not everyone’s body can lift luggage. While watching arrogantly as fellow passengers sag under the weight of their checked luggage, while easily rolling up their luggage, this is a kind of satisfaction. When traveling for business (and in luxury hotels), your carry-on luggage will make you look more professional. Hard cases have many advantages in terms of durability and safety.

What should I pack in my carry-on luggage?

This may feel like putting together a jigsaw puzzle while packing for a vacation or work trip. How do you pack all the items you need while complying with TSA regulations? In addition, people misplace their belongings, shopping at the airport is expensive, and items may be stolen. In order to enjoy a pleasant trip, please plan ahead and put these items in your carry-on luggage.

Phone charger

Don’t assume that your phone battery can last long enough to transport you to the hotel. Carry the charger with you in case your phone needs to be charged, especially when all the information you need is in your email inbox.

Important documents

Put your money, passport and ticket in your handbag. However, please pack the actual ticket, the invitation letter with the address or any other documents that do not have a digital copy in your carry-on baggage. It’s also a good idea to print out any tickets, instructions, or itineraries that you keep on your phone, just in case something goes wrong.

E-cigarette or e-cigarette device

Yes, you can travel with e-cigarettes or e-cigarettes. TSA requires you to pack your e-cigarette/e-cigarette device in your carry-on luggage, not in your checked luggage. You also need to make sure that the liquid you need meets the liquid limits.

Valuable objects

Although airports and airlines are doing their best to prevent luggage from being stolen, accidents sometimes occur. Always carry your jewelry, money, camera, laptop and other valuables with you. The clothes were stolen from the luggage, so suppose you spent a lot of money on it, it belongs to your carry-on luggage.

drug

When you put prescription drugs in your checked luggage, you not only face the danger of being stolen, but if your luggage is lost, you will also find it difficult to refill. In your carry-on baggage, in addition to any prescription drugs, you should also carry any over-the-counter drugs that you may need during your travels. Drugs have their own set of restrictions, which vary from region to region. Check the restrictions of the country/region you are leaving, but in most cases, you need to notify the inspector that you are carrying liquid medicines in addition to the plastic zipper bags that are allowed.

Changes in underwear

Be prepared to change underwear at any time, in case your luggage is misplaced or you need to freshen up after traveling.

cosmetic

Brush your teeth before leaving the airport to make a good first impression of your destination. By keeping a limited amount of toiletries in your carry-on luggage, you can avoid searching for your luggage in public.

A foldable water bottle

The plane may be very dry and the water bottles provided on the plane are not enough to keep you hydrated during the journey. After passing the security check, fill the collapsible water bottle with drinking water. Even if they are full, they take up less space than traditional reusable bottles.

Suitable clothing

Whether you are planning to escape the sweltering winter in the tropics or to escape the heat in the cold Alps-prepare for the ever-changing climate, please bring a change of clothes in your carry-on luggage. You don’t want heatstroke or cold waves to spoil your vacation!

Delicious snack

If the small bag of biscuits provided by a pleasant flight attendant is not enough, please bring your own lunch or snacks. As long as it is wrapped and not liquid, it can pass the security check. It is also much cheaper than buying food at the airport.

entertainment

Bring a book or magazine, unless looking out of the window will keep you happy throughout the journey. Avoid heavy hardcover books; instead, stock your e-readers. However, remember to always carry the magazine with you when taking off and landing.

What can’t be brought into carry-on luggage?

I firmly believe that I only bring carry-on luggage when I travel. This means you can carry less luggage, you do not have to pay for luggage, and your luggage will not be lost if it is not checked in. However, you should know what items cannot be brought into your carry-on luggage. If you plan to bring any of these items, you must leave them at home, find alternatives, or check in your luggage.

As the cabin is usually very cold, please bring a warm sweater or light jacket (and socks!) during the journey, but do not put it in your carry-on luggage. Sweatshirts and jackets are not counted as one of the two free luggage you fly with, so please throw them on your arms to save luggage space.

Flammable

It is not a good idea to start a fire on an airplane. All combustible substances and materials should be left at home. If you think you need camping equipment or fireworks on vacation, please get them when you get there. Carry-on baggage and checked baggage are forbidden to carry such items and other flammable and explosive items. On the plane, you can carry a lighter with you. The lighter can only be checked when there is no fuel in it.

More than 100 ml of liquid

Liquid bans are now almost everywhere, but implementation varies. The TSA liquid regulations are as follows; all liquids must be kept in a container of no more than 100 ml and packed in a transparent quarter zipper bag. You must not transport liquids in larger bags. You can still carry only liquids in your carry-on luggage. Before you go, try your toiletries to determine how much you really need.

Bring travel-sized toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, and other items you choose to take with you on vacation. Toiletries and other liquids must be packed in a container, no more than 100 ml, and packed in a one-liter transparent zipper bag. Liquids and gels are examples of this. If you need to carry toiletries that exceed these limits, you must pack them in your checked baggage.

Sharp things

Sharp objects are not allowed in carry-on luggage, as they may be used as weapons. If you still need to bring knives or utility knives on vacation, please make sure to put them in your checked luggage. TSA usually allows the use of scissors smaller than 4 inches, such as nail scissors. However, the rules of each country may be different, so please check carefully before flying. It is forbidden to carry any type of knives, but plastic knives or round-blade butter knives can be carried in the carry-on baggage. On the other hand, metal knives, pocket knives and Swiss army knives are not allowed. Bringing the razor on an airplane can be a bit tricky.

Electric shavers can be placed in carry-on luggage, but straight shavers and safety razor blades are not allowed. However, if it is a disposable razor, you may take it through security. When the glass breaks, it can be quite sharp and even fatal. However, glasses can be carried on the plane in hand luggage. Glass photo frames and vases are especially allowed in carry-on luggage. The glass should always be wrapped with bubbles to prevent it from breaking during transportation. You can leave your crochet and knitting needles in your carry-on or hand luggage to board the plane.

Powder Policy-TSA

As if the regulation of liquids is not complicated enough, now we have to deal with TSA’s new powder policy. The first thing to remember is that powdered medicines are still allowed in carry-on luggage. Powdered substances larger than 350 ml must be stored in a separate container for X-ray inspection. They may need to check further and open the container. In addition, according to the websites of several airlines, powder larger than 350ml is not allowed in carry-on luggage. TSA does not require you to pack them in your checked baggage, but it encourages you to do so.

Sports Equipment

Ski poles, baseball bats, pool cues, golf clubs and other entertainment equipment involving clubs, clubs, bats or clubs are not allowed on the plane. This is because they may be used as weapons. If you plan to participate in sports during the trip, please consider renting equipment at your location.

Weapons and tools

Guns are obviously a weapon, and they don’t want you to take the plane in your carry-on luggage. Self-defense materials such as pepper spray or mace are not allowed in carry-on baggage. Tools such as hammers and drills are also prohibited in hand luggage.

Agricultural products

Most countries prohibit the import of meat, fruits, vegetables, plants and other agricultural products when traveling overseas. If you want to take an apple as a snack on the plane, you must eat it first. Otherwise, it may be confiscated upon arrival, and you may encounter hostile border agents. Some countries are much stricter and will not accept any items purchased elsewhere.
