Event photos and video announcements show Abbott’s use of a wheelchair.This seems to prompt a surge in the number of people looking for answers to causes, according to Google Trend analysis tool.
Abbott is open to the reasons why he must use a wheelchair and answered this question on his official website.
“Many Texans ask why Governor Greg Abbott is in a wheelchair. His story is one of the stories of overcoming tragedy,” his website reads.
In July 1984, 26-year-old Abbott was paralyzed from the waist down and had just graduated from law school. When a large oak tree broke and fell on his back, he was jogging near West Houston.
The tree crushed some of his vertebrae, causing them to shatter into his spinal cord. His vital organs and ribs were also damaged. The doctor treated him by installing a pair of permanent steel rods near his spine.
In an interview shared on his YouTube channel in 2013, he described a life-changing day.
“I just jogged as usual, and there was a huge explosion next to me. Then I knew [I] It fell because the big tree fell on me.
“The pain is unbearable, it feels like someone hit my back with a sledgehammer. I’m really at the door of death, and I feel like I have to grasp every moment.”
The video shows a photo of a young Abbott lying on a bed, wearing what appears to be a medical device on his torso.
He said: “When you lie in bed and are strangled by pain, you must apply the lessons you have learned throughout your life. For me, that lesson is perseverance. This is a lesson to never give up. Our lives are not ours. Challenge definitions, on the contrary, we can define our lives by how we deal with these challenges.”
