Why is MOT Type 1 essential when creating a patio?

*This is a collaborative post.

Once you get a little sunshine outside, do you ever feel the urge to start organizing your outdoor activities? I don’t know what it is…it feels like a little bug inside me telling me to take advantage of the tiniest bit of sunlight. This may be because the sun is something we don’t see very often in England.

So, as soon as I saw the weather start to improve, I started making changes to my outdoor spaces. This year, I’ve been thinking about creating a small patio to create an outdoor dining area. I’ve seen thousands of beautiful patios online and offline over the years, and this is the year I’ve created my own. However, I wouldn’t do it willingly.

Before I start, I want to talk to a professional. I interviewed Continental Aggregates, a family-run aggregate supplier in the UK. They explain that aggregate is the first choice when making patios and stress the importance of having a good garden paving foundation, including a good sub-base material such as MOT Type 1.

What is MOT Type 1?

MOT Type 1 from Mainland Aggregates Is the material used to create the base for patios, walkways, and roads. Substrates help distribute traffic loads evenly and are therefore an essential part of any paving. “This layer provides support and evenly spreads the flow load. A good base will reduce settling, deformation and damage.” Tea Bucket Explained Further.

In addition to a good subbase, it is also important to have a layer between the subbase and the subgrade as a filtering and/or separation layer. These products are essential to having good patio architecture (and will remain the same for many years to come!).

as This article about the Society of Landscape Architects Mentions, “If the subbase is not correct, a beautifully furnished patio is likely to become useless in a relatively short period of time. Failed paving construction can often be attributed to the wrong subbase material, insufficient depth or improper installation.”

This type of substrate is the most widely used approved substrate in the construction industry. It can be made from various aggregates. Mom Comments Comments “Mot Type 1 can be made of limestone, granite or clean crushed concrete.”
