On Tuesday, a Yorkshire terrier defended her 10-year-old owner when the dog encountered a wild coyote who started chasing the little girl when she was out walking the dog.
Home security footage captured the incident in Scarborough, Toronto, Canada, and showed Lily Kwan fleeing the coyote and seeking help. Her Yorkie, 6-year-old Messi, faces wild animals.
The coyote attacked the puppy and once bit her in his mouth. Messi was injured and was sent to the intensive care unit, but it is expected that she will fully recover.
The 10-year-old girl told CTV News in Canada about the attack and how she felt about Messi’s behavior.
Lily Kwan said that she saw this coyote while walking on Macy, and had seen a neighbor’s post before. Warning about coyotes approaching children.

She ran away from the coyote, screamed, and rang the doorbell for help. The video shows Lily and Messi running past animals on the street. She said she had to put down the Leash at Macy’s because the dog would not follow her.
“I ran to the sidewalk and started screaming for help. No one heard my voice,” she said, adding that she dropped the dog’s leash in the process,” she said.
At some point in the video, Messi turned to face the coyote, apparently to protect her owner. Yorkshire terriers are small dogs, usually weighing between four and seven pounds.
Coyotes are much larger than Yorkshire terriers and weigh between 15 and 44 pounds, depending on their gender. It is not clear whether the coyote in question is male or female.
Although Messi did fall into the coyote’s mouth briefly, a neighbor finally came to rescue and drove the animal away. The dog had eight major stab wounds and had to undergo surgery. She is currently in the intensive care unit of the local veterinarian.
The cost of veterinary care can be considerable. The GoFundMe campaign to pay the bills has raised $19,000, exceeding its goal of $10,000. The Canadian healthcare system does not include pet treatment.
“She is a super brave dog, I love her very much, I just want This puppy can protect this huge human Trying to repel this huge coyote,” Lily said.
When the incident occurred, Lily’s mother Dorothy Kwan was on her way to work. She told CTV News: “My dog will do anything for our family, so I am not surprised that she does it.”
