A new feature for YouTube creators will be the ability to correct videos after they go live.
Previously, the only way to correct errors in a posted video was to delete, edit and reupload it.
The old solution created more problems than it solved because all watch time and engagement metrics were lost in the process.
Conversely, if YouTube creators decide to fix their mistakes entirely, they usually do so by adding a note to the description or comments section.
However, this is only useful if the viewer scrolls down the page, not at all if the video is embedded on another site.
You can now correct existing videos in a way that is immediately visible while watching the video.
How YouTube Video Correction Works
YouTube’s corrections feature is a mix of old and new. It still requires creators to point out errors and provide instructions in the video description section.
New to this release is the ability to draw attention to corrections during the video itself.
With YouTube video corrections, you can alert viewers when a specific moment in your video contains an error and link them to a description section that provides instructions.
When you add corrections to a YouTube video, viewers will see a card that appears when something goes wrong.
An info card trailer indicating that a correction exists will be displayed once throughout the video with the correction timestamp.
Clicking on a card will expand the video description with written corrections or clarifications.
