YouTube is removing the count of public dislikes for all videos, but the dislike button is still available for users to customize their recommendations.
This permanent change follows an experiment conducted earlier this year in which YouTube removed disliked content to see if it helped reduce “dislike attacks.”
“As part of this experiment, viewers can still see and use the dislike button. But since they can’t see the count, we found that they are unlikely to target the “dislike” button of the video to increase the count. In short, we The experimental data showed that aversion to aggression has decreased.”
According to YouTube, when users collectively dislike a video, it is a kind of harassment to the creator. The purpose of deleting the counts that the public disliked is to reduce the so-called “harassment.”

In the future, the dislike button will remain on the video, but the clicks it receives will not be made public.
This button is now a tool that viewers can use to customize the recommendations they receive on YouTube.
Channels can check how many dislikes their videos have received in the YouTube studio and other metrics (if they wish).
YouTube acknowledges that the decision to remove the dislike count is not for everyone:
“We heard during the experiment that some of you use the public dislike count to help decide whether to watch the video. We know you may disagree with this decision, but we believe it is correct for the platform.”

YouTube claims that its experimental results show that dislike counting has no measurable impact on users’ decisions to watch videos.

If you find that the dislike count is helpful when deciding whether to watch a video, you can still refer to the comment section of the video.
You can also find out there whether people generally agree with the content of the video, provided that the channel does not disable user comments.
YouTube is committed to making more such changes in the future:
“We want to create an environment of tolerance and mutual respect where creators have the opportunity to succeed and feel safe to express themselves. This is just one of the many measures we have taken to continue to protect creators from harassment. Our work is not done yet. , We will continue to invest here.”
