10 Cocktail Recipes From Two Favorite Local Restaurants

Last week, I did a roundup Some of our favorite mocktail recipes for summer. If you’re in the mood for a cocktail, I’ve picked out some of my favorite recipes for you to try at home. Going to a restaurant and ordering a cocktail feels very fun and luxurious, but it can get expensive. Making fresh cocktails at home is actually a lot easier than you might think, and it’s a lot of fun. Especially in summer, you can use fresh mint, rosemary, strawberries, jalapenos, and lemon thyme straight from the garden or farmers market.

I reached out to some of our favorite local restaurants to find out how to recreate their specialty drinks at home. Simon Pearce in Quechee and Ransom Tavern in South Woodstock, Vermont are two of my favorite places to experience cocktails. Ransom Tavern Cocktail in South Woodstock, Vermont

Hibiscus Pearl

Ransom’s Hibiscus Margarita is one of my favorites. Just the right amount of subtle sweetness and tartness makes for a refreshing drink in the sun on a summer evening. Hibiscus petals are optional but add a special touch and authenticity.

raw material:

  • 2 ounces hibiscus tequila
  • 3/4 oz.Orange Curacao Blend
  • 3/4 oz.lime juice
  • a pinch of salt
  • hibiscus petals/salt garnish


Add the ingredients to the jar and shake with ice. Strain into a rock glass with ice. Garnish with lime wedges and hibiscus/salt edging.

Havana daisies

Another Ransom favorite, this Havana adds the perfect zip and zing to your cocktails. It wakes you up and boosts your mood for a fun evening with family or friends.


  • 2 ounces Tapatio white tequila
  • 3/2 oz.Orange Curacao Blend
  • 3/4 oz.lime juice
  • 5 cucumbers
  • 5 drops Havana tincture
  • dry lime wheel decoration


Add the cucumber chunks to the tin and toss to coat. Add other ingredients and shake with ice. Strain into a rock glass with ice. Garnish with dried lime.

Elderflower Mezcal Margarita

As I mentioned in last week’s mocktail post, elderflower is one of my favorite flavors. It has gained popularity in cocktails over the past few years for its fresh, fruity, subtle floral aromas and some pear, lychee and tropical flavors. In fact, it is known to have medicinal properties, especially for the immune system.

raw material:

  • 2 ounces white tequila
  • 1 tablespoon mezcal
  • 1 ounce elderflower liqueur
  • 3/4 oz.lime juice
  • dried pea flowers


Add the ingredients to the jar and shake with ice. Strain into a rock glass with ice. Garnish with a pinch of dried flowers and a fresh lime wheel.

First Blush Gin

This mix of pink pepper and grapefruit is genius. The tartness complements the smoky paprika for a delicious summer cocktail.

raw material:

  • 2 ounces pink pepper-infused gin
  • 2 drops grapefruit bittering agent
  • Fever Tree Grapefruit Soda
  • pink pepper/grapefruit slices for garnish


Make ingredients in bulb glass on ice. Stir gently. Garnish with pink pepper and grapefruit wedges.

Green Thumb Gin & Tonic

I love the name of this summer and the flavors of dill, lime and citrus. Suze is also a game-changer in cocktails, beefeater gin is such a classic for delicious G&T.

raw material:

  • 2 oz robust gin
  • 1/2 oz. Suze
  • 3/4 oz.Dill Syrup
  • 1/2 oz.lime juice
  • Citrus Tonic
  • Dill sprigs/lime garnish


Make ingredients in bulb glass on ice. Stir gently. Garnish with a fresh dill sprig and lime wheel.

Rosebud Gin and Tonic

I don’t have this yet, but I’d love to try it! Featuring Vermont’s own Green Mountain Gin and Cocchi Rosa, with some lemon and tonic for a touch of tartness and bitterness to balance out the sweetness.
