10 things we love about August
Five things about Jesse
my wild garden
early summer we bought bunch of seed packets And planted a wild garden in the backyard. In fact, I’ve never grown flowers from seeds before, so I really don’t know what to expect. We finally had blooms in August and it was so much fun. Marin loves to go out and pick flowers, and we’ve made it a weekly schedule. I love having my own cut flowers, especially cosmos. They are so beautiful.
newsletter
I’ve been following the newsletter lately and have discovered some great writers. They all have something different to offer, but I like setting aside time to read their reflections on everything from beauty culture to creativity to motherhood and patriarchy. Here are some of my favourites: Jessica DeFino, Unpublishable (on the beauty industry); Ryan Anderson and Alison Lichter, matriarchy report (on the challenges parents, especially women, face in a society where there is little support for parents); Emma Gannon, “The Hyphen” (on creativity, burnout, being your own boss); Hayley Naman “Maybe Baby” (Modern life, cultural criticism, and in general, very good writing on a lot of topics).
Graça olive oil
I actually found out for the first time grace Last winter a friend gave me a bottle as a gift. I don’t remember if I shared it here, but it deserves its own shout out. This is 100% Spanish olive oil and I like to use them for my own dressing drizzle with olive oil. A drizzle of Maldon sea salt over fresh tomatoes is also delicious.
Saie Glossy Bounce
Sai In my book, I can do nothing wrong. their glow super gel It’s the holy grail of my hydrated skin. Needless to say, I was excited to try their new Glossybounce Hydrating Lip Oil. Not surprisingly, I love it. It is hydrating and moisturizing without a sticky feel. It is a sheer wash color with a glossy but not too shiny finish. Dream Probably my fall favorite (pure berries), but bounce The color is also just right while looking completely natural.
Body-fitting organic cotton lounge dress
a home dress, an errand dress, a school send dress, a weeding garden dress, you name it, I wear it all the time. It’s simple, it’s comfortable, and it works for those unexpectedly hot days we still linger on. It’s huge, so I recommend reducing the size. It’s also a great maternity/postpartum style!
five things about kelly
born from within
As I mentioned in last week’s post, Pregnancy Guilty Layer Cake, I struggled a bit with the thought of going to labor again.i have found born from within So transformative. To be honest, I didn’t read any maternity/pregnancy books when I was pregnant for the first time and didn’t really intend to read it this time around. A lot of it was too scientific and anatomical for me. This overwhelms me. This feels more consistent and helpful. It comes from a place of helping women reconnect with our intuition and natural ability to get through pregnancy and childbirth. Our culture and society have moved away from nature, and this book is interactive and very nourishing! I highly recommend it to anyone who is pregnant.
Yellow Jackets
My husband and I started Yellow Jackets Season two wrapped up a few weeks ago. We are totally hooked. When a girls’ soccer team’s plane crashes in the remote wilderness, they become a savage tribe as survival begins. Set in the 1990s, the show follows survivors of the crash as they struggle to live amid the trauma of that terrible time. Packed with suspense, drama, and dark humor, this show will keep you on edge at every turn. One of the best shows I’ve seen in a while.
con queen season 4
jessie let me in con queen Last year and now I’m a big fan of it. Johnathan Walton is the absolute best host, delivering so much wit, humor and authenticity in the utter horror of the liars he highlights. I’m not a Housewives fan, but the latest season, unreal housewife, sharing the story of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah. Buckle up, it’s been a wild ride! Also, what is the charm of a liar! ?
very bright creature
very bright creature It’s been on my reading list for a while, and this month I finally started reading. When I started, I knew this was going to be the favorite of my life. This incredibly sweet tale follows an octopus living in an aquarium and the friendships he makes with humans along the way. This light-hearted story has such depth and symbolism. I especially love the way the author weaves together the stories of three very unique, witty and likable characters.
relaxing tune
My husband recently discovered this Spotify playlist – relaxing tune We like to shuffle. It’s a great mix of old songs with new songs, and some new songs that I’ve never heard before that are becoming my favorites. Perfect for late summer mornings and evenings. enjoy.
