The holidays are such a special time of year. You can feel the cheer and excitement in the air. One of our favorite things about the holidays is all the timeless holiday movies we watch every year. A big part of our holiday traditions includes watching our favorite movies each year. There’s something so comforting and nostalgic about showing your favorite holiday movie. It brings back childhood and growing up memories and makes us feel the pure magic of this season again. With so many holiday movies to choose from, it can sometimes be hard to know which one to pick. Some are romantic, some will make you laugh or cry, and some are kid-friendly. Some holiday movies are pretty cheesy and predictable, and some we watch just because it’s tradition.
Today, we’re sharing our favorite holiday movies to help you feel refreshed this season. So grab your maple butter popcorn, Christmas cookies, and hot cocoa, then wrap up in a blanket and enjoy one of our favorite holiday movies.
12 of our favorite holiday movies
Holiday
I watch this every year. I can’t help but love the Cameron Diaz-Jude Law and Kate Winslet-Jack Black chemistry. Holiday Fun, light and always brings a warm, festive feel. I also love the house swap premise and of course fall in love with the sweet country cottages in England every year. This one will make you laugh, cry, and feel the love of the season.
Love
“Love is actually all around us” Some people love and hate Love (and some of the storylines are pretty cringe-worthy), but I keep coming back to it every year and love the intertwined storylines. True love will break your heart and make you laugh at ridiculous storylines. Hugh Grant can’t get enough of the Pointer Sisters dance “jump” and I keep crying in one particular scene… Love Funny and sentimental at the same time, it’s a great holiday watch.
home alone
home alone is a childhood classic that is always fun and nostalgic to watch. Kevin McCallister’s family accidentally goes on vacation abroad alone and he leaves this classic tale alone – can we talk about how ridiculous the premise is? For this one, you need to consciously suspend disbelief, but it’s so funny and always brings out those cheerful Christmas vibes.
A Charlie Brown Christmas
A Charlie Brown Christmas is another holiday classic that you can’t pass the season without watching. I love messages that touch on commercialism, holiday cynicism, and simplicity. You’ll see all your favorite Charlie Brown characters in all their holiday glory. It’s perfect for little ones to watch with their loved ones.
Elf
Elf It’s silly and ridiculous, but I still like it. When Buddy the Elf discovers that he’s not actually an elf but a human, he travels to the Big Apple to find his father. Chaos ensues as he tries to fit into society with his elf-like tendencies and eccentricities. Will he finally find love and save Christmas? A great, feel-good holiday comedy.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
I know everyone has their favorite version, but I personally prefer How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Kim Kelly. He does a fantastic job embodying everything we know and love about the Grinch with such absurd humor. No matter what your favorite version is, don this timeless classic and enjoy watching the Whoville community discover the true meaning of Christmas with the help of our favorite Christmas grumpy, the…the… the…THE GRINCH!
life is wonderful
life is wonderful For those who love old-school classics, here’s another traditional Christmas story. Taken in 1946, life is wonderful Tells the story of a man who loses meaning in his life and an angel sends him to show him all the joy and happiness he has shown in his life. Sometimes all we need is a small perspective to gain gratitude and love for the life we are living.
Santa Claus
i remember to see Santa Claus Was in the theater with my mom when the movie first came out in 1994. My mom was terrified that I would find out through the premise of the movie that there was no Santa Claus. But thankfully, I was too young to even notice! Santa Claus still brings back those warm, nostalgic childhood feelings and provides some great entertainment for a light-hearted December watch.
christmas story
I’ll never forget “You’ll shoot your eyes out!” or leg lights or tongue stuck on a frozen pole. christmas story Filled with hilarious mishaps and laughs, it captures the 1940s holiday at its best. Every Christmas, we always watch an all-day Christmas story marathon on TBS. It’s a special traditional and fun way to sit back and relax during the holidays.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Holiday
Quite possibly my favorite Christmas movie, National Lampoon’s Christmas Holiday Simply the best. So laugh out loud, funny and funny. In this classic holiday season, the Griswalds are back and spending Christmas at their home. Between their cousins showing up unexpectedly in their RV, the drama with the neighbors and poor Clark trying to make Christmas perfect, the film is as humorous as it is sentimental, and it hits all the holiday sensibilities.
Claus
Claus A new addition to the holiday favorites. You can find it on Netflix, and it tells the original story of a postman who gets sent north because he’s the worst student in the academy. In a frozen northern town, the postman meets Klaus, a toymaker. The movie is sweet, kid-friendly, and a great addition to the holiday series.
a boy named christmas
Another Netflix original, a boy named christmas is a magical Christmas movie you’ll fall in love with. With the help of friends he meets along the way, a boy named Nicholas sets out in the snowy north in search of his father. What he doesn’t know is that what he discovers is his destiny!
snow day
This animated version of the children’s classic storybook Written by Ezra Jack Keats and narrated by Regina King and Laurence Fishburne. The book is an absolute staple, the short films bring the story to life by adding characters, and the nostalgia we all love for snowy days.
snowman
Also based on this book, snowman Bring kids’ classics to life. A beautiful film, with wonderful music and a storyline that brings to life the magic and wonder of our imagination. A great movie for all ages. The movie is short, perfect for kids with inattention.
