The second day of completing the skateboarding competition at the Tokyo Olympics brought another extraordinary story. A pair of 13-year-old girls won gold and silver medals in the women’s street competition.
The day after Japan’s Hori Mi Yuto won the sport’s first ever Olympic championship, the home court became more glorious as Westinghouse Momiji won the gold medal before Brazil’s Reza Lyle.
The host country also won the bronze medal, and the 16-year-old veteran Zhongshan Chuanming won the third place.
Skateboarding is one of the four new sports for the first time in these games, as part of a plan to attract young urban audiences, and will remain in Paris three years later.
With the street games now complete, attention will turn to the park games, in which the 13-year-old Sky Brown, who won the bronze medal in the last World Championships for the GB team, has his own child star, and the X Games gold medal earlier this month.
