Over the holiday weekend, more than a dozen people were shot dead in Chicago, including a 19-year-old member of the National Guard.

At around 1:25 on Saturday morning, the police found that the teenager was unresponsive and had gunshot wounds to his back and abdomen. He was taken to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Illinois National Guard confirmed Weekly newspaper Carvajal recently completed basic army training and is a member of the Lima Company, Recruit Maintenance Plan, Recruitment and Retention Battalion. He was assigned to a transportation unit.

The organization added that Carvajal left work when he died and the investigation will be handled by civil law enforcement.

Early on Monday morning, two Chicago police officers sustained gunshot wounds while dispersing crowds in the city’s 15th police district. Both police officers were taken to John H. Strogg Jr. Hospital without life threatening.
