First of all, I want to wish you all a Happy New Year in advance! We are on vacation (in California, waiting for my next travel post!) and I have arranged to post this post on the last day of the year. With the end of 2021, there are many things that require reflection and gratitude. Now is the best time to look back and feel accomplished for all your possible achievements and look forward to new goals and dreams. For many people, holidays can also be a stressful period. Traveling, hosting family and friends, and giving gifts to others can affect many people. Although this is a happy hour of the year, stress and fatigue may spread to some people. In today’s post, I wrote some simple diary tips to help reduce your stress and end your year with gratitude.
Self-care is an important part of everyone’s life. You can’t give up an empty bucket. You can’t take care of others without taking care of yourself first. If you can’t stop and enjoy life, you won’t be happy. Keeping a diary is a great way to live in the moment and be grateful for each day. To be honest, in 2020 last year, when the COVID began to affect in March, diaries became part of our lives. All schools have started to close, and things have become dark and scary. We are a family of four and at that time I introduced diaries to my teenagers as part of our daily lives. Although we are still on the journey of trying to write down our thoughts (mainly gratitude), I find that regular journaling is a great way to reduce stress, reflect and cultivate gratitude.
There are many forms of diaries. There is no right or wrong way. You can write a paragraph, a page, a story, or just a reflective sentence at the end of the day, the beginning of the day, or any time in between. We personally used GLAD (about the things you are grateful for, what you learned today, what you accomplished today, and the happiness today) and three things we are grateful for every night. Today’s post is about reflection in the form of a diary. Read the 50 diary tips I can start using today, and then through practice I hope you will continue to use diary as part of your daily life.
reflection
Self-reflection is very powerful. Writing or sharing your thoughts with someone can make us clear, understanding, and purposeful. Most of the time, we are so busy in our daily lives that we rarely take time to stop and think about some things, including our feelings and stress. As 2021 comes to an end, it is vital to reflect and learn from past experience or mistakes. Reflection not only allows us to grow, but it can also help us understand and answer the questions we might be looking for outside. Mindfulness and meditation are great ways to pause, live in the present and understand things around us. It can be very helpful to develop the habit of growing through reflection and self-awareness. Keeping a diary is a good self-care program. Diaries can help turn our thoughts into words, reflect on where we are now and where we are going, and are a good tool for reviewing in weeks or months (or years).
