Yesuto Horigome is the first Olympic skateboarding champion. The world champion from Japan won the street discipline in the Tokyo final with 37.18 points, which is Japan’s third gold medal in these competitions. Brazilian Kelvin Hoefler won the runner-up and Jagger Eaton (USA) won the bronze medal. German athletes did not start at Ariake City Sports Park. American superstar Nyjah Huston only finished seventh.
In the run-up, Hori Mi (22 years old) ranked sixth in his hometown. There are two games of 45 seconds each, after which the athlete can demonstrate five individual skills. In the end, a total of four achievements were included in the comprehensive ranking. The judges evaluate the difficulty, speed, originality and execution of the competition, as well as the composition of the competition.
The attention of the Germans was mainly on Lilly Stoephasius, who was only 14 years old. The Berliner is the youngest German Olympic participant and, like Tyler Edtmayer (20) from Lenggries, has qualified for the men’s park event. It was Stoephasius’ turn on August 4, and Edtmayer was challenged a day later. In the street category, no German athlete can buy Tokyo tickets.
